Projects
Past Projects
Francis spent over 20 years working with his father the eminent classical architect Quinlan Terry. The projects below were designed under that partnership.
-
House in Ireland
This new house, completed in 2013, was designed by Quinlan and Francis Terry – their last collaborative project before Francis set up an independent practice – and constructed on the site of a late 18thCentury house, in a fine, mature landscape park. In 2015 it was awarded the Georgian Group’s inaugural Diaphoros Award for original, transcendent Classical design.
-
Addition of Wings to House in Wiltshire
Built by Quinlan and Francis Terry in 2000-02 for Viscount and Viscountess Rothermere, Ferne Park is a serene, dignified, four-square classical pile inspired by Palladio.
-
Addition of Wings to house in Dorset
Built by Quinlan and Francis Terry in 2000-02, the house in Dorset is a serene, dignified, four-square classical pile inspired by Palladio. Built of materials far finer than brick and stucco it is remarkable for combining four different stones which provide a range of subtly varied colours.
-
House in Regent's Park, London
This magnificent new mansion, built in 2003-10 from designs by Quinlan and Francis Terry, began as a simple classical villa built by Decimus Burton in 1827 as part of John Nash’s plans for his Picturesque layout of Regent’s Park.
-
Howard Theatre
Howard Theatre, built in 2009-10 of Ketton stone, completes Howard Court of which Quinlan and Francis Terry built the north and west sides in 1986 and 1994 respectively.
-
Summerhouse in Dorset
In 2007, Quinlan and Francis Terry built an ambitious summer house in a secluded valley. At the suggestion of the client, the north entrance front of this took inspiration from a garden building of c.1738 at Rousham, Oxfordshire, by William Kent.
-
Recovery Centre
Turning a former stately home like Tedworth House into a Personal Recovery Centre for wounded soldiers is a very untypical project for the office to be involved with and it came by a rather obscure route.
-
Queen Mother Square
Quinlan and Francis Terry were honoured to receive this commission because they have long admired the Prince of Wales for his courage in establishing and continually supporting Poundbury.
-
Memorial Garden
This commission was unusual for the practice as it is their first built work in Asia. The brief was to design an English style garden as a memorial to the mother of the client.

-
House in Twickenham
Unusually in the career of Quinlan and Francis Terry, this was not a house commissioned by a private client for his own use but was a speculation by a property developer from South Africa.
-
House in Surrey
This house was designed for a client who wanted a house in the French classical manner. Though the practice has been asked to design a number of French style buildings, none have so far been built.
-
House in Regent's Park, London
This magnificent new mansion, built in 2003-10 from designs by Quinlan and Francis Terry for Lord Bagri, began as a simple classical villa built by Decimus Burton in 1827.
-
Hotel at Hampton Court Station
The plan of the hotel by Quinlan and Francis Terry takes the form of a long rectangle which is a response to its site along the edge of the river Thames.
